This Free Software lets you Downgrade from Windows 10 if you Change your Mind

windows 10 downgrade

Windows 10 will be available next week as a free upgrade, and millions out there are most likely planning to make the jump, especially as the next operating system comes with plenty of new features. But this doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to like or that everything will go smooth, so you might ponder over the thought to downgrade to your previous Windows version.
However, sometimes this could create even more problems than sticking with an undesirable version of Windows. EaseUS, a Chinese online software company specializing in data backup, data recovery and partition management, has now released System GoBack Free 1.0, a free Windows rollback alternative for Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 users who want to downgrade from Windows 10.
Even if Microsoft is going to deliver a final version of Windows 10 next week, it’s almost a given that there will be plenty of unexpected glitches and crashes, and you can never know how serious they can be. So rolling back to your previous Windows version might be a good idea just until Microsoft comes up with a fix for that potential problem.
System GoBack Free allows to take a full system image of the user’s computer before jumping to Windows 10. Of course, Windows also comes with its own built-in system image tools, but what makes this free software different is how easy it can be used.
system go back free windows 10 rollback
You just need to download and install the app and then go for the “Backup System” option which will create an image of your current Windows. Once you have upgraded to Windows 10, you can choose the “Go Backup” feature. In my case,  the backup took quite a while, as this depends on the size of your Windows partition. What could be improved, however, is for the software to offer the option to pick and choose your backup drive and to create an emergency boot image.
What needs to be pointed out is that the program needs to be used before upgrading to Windows 10 as you need to create a backup first. If you need more features, the Todo Backup Workstation lets you exclude files from backup, comes with Outlook backup & recovery, a WinPE bootable media yes and others.

How To Choose CPU Core To Be Used By Program By Processor Affinity

By default, programs you run on your computer uses all available processor cores, and this happens since Windows XP and even on Windows 8. But, if you have a dual or quad-core, you can set the “processor affinity” to choose which CPU core should program use.
That way, you can choose a specific core for a Program, while another application runs on another. Although it is not possible to define this “core priority” for system services, you can use this feature in programs like Google Chrome, Firefox or any other. So, you get a good overall performance on your computer.
Changing processor affinity means you limit an application to make it run only on certain core, which can be very useful if you have a program that is hogging all the CPU resources. But beware: for most applications, it is recommended that you should not make this change in the settings – it is better to let Windows manage them.
Setting the processor affinity lasts as long as an application is open. When you close the program or restart the computer, the values return to standard form. Here’s how to choose a program to run exclusively on one of the CPU cores:

Set Processor Affinity on Windows XP

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to open the Windows Task Manager and go to the “Processes” tab. In the process list, select the one you want to change and right click on your name.
If you do not know which process is associated with which application, open the tab “Applications”, click the right mouse button on the program name and select “Go To Process”. This command will open the “Processes” tab automatically and the specified process will be highlighted;
2. Now, right click on the process name chosen and select “Set Affinity” from the context menu;
Processor Affnity - Windows Xp
3. In the dialog “with the CPU Affinity”, you will find several options for selection: “all processors” and the options of your processor cores. If you have a dual-core processor, for example, they will be listed as “CPU 0″ and “CPU 1″. Simply just mark the cores you want and click OK.

Windows Vista and 7 Processor Affinity

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Windows Task Manager;
2. In the “Processes” tab, check the box “Show processes from all users”;
3. Right-click on the process whose processor affinity you want to change and choose “Set Affinity.”
Windows 7 Processor Affinitty
4. Now choose which core CPU you want the program to run, and click OK.
Windows 7 Processor Affinity CPU Core

Windows 8 Processor Affinity

1. Click the right mouse button in the Windows taskbar and select “Task Manager” or “Task Manager”, depending on the operating system language;
2. Then select the tab “Details” (detail);
3. Find the process in the list and click right on it;
4. Choose “Set affinity” (set affinity) in the context menu;
Windows 8 Processor Affinity
5. By default, applications are scheduled to use all the processors in the PC. Simply uncheck this option and choose which core you want the program to run.
I personally use two programs simultaneously for most of the time name Google Chrome and Firefox. So, I prefer keeping Firefox on one core and Chrome on another because they are the most resource hogging applications.
According to your use, wisely choose CPU Core To be used by Program by Processor Affinity.

Switch from Gmail to Outlook in Few Seconds...

Gmail, the email service provided by Google, is one of the email servers with a huge number of active email users. In fact, people have been using Gmail for a long time as a means of information exchange. The biggest advantage to Google users is that they can log in to other services of Google (such as YouTube, Orkut, Google+, and more) with their Gmail login credentials.
I do not recommend using Gmail only for exchanging information through emails, as plenty of other email service providers are also available, including, Yahoo Mail, Rediffmail, and Outlook.com (the online version of the most preferred desktop client from Microsoft). However, people prefer using Gmail because of its ease of use. In fact, Gmail is a secure email service provided free of cost by Google, which users can use both as a secure webmail and via IMAP4 or POP3 protocols.

Why Recommending Outlook.com?

gmail import to outlook
Outlook.com is nothing apart from an email service by Microsoft, and it is named among the best webmail services, previously know as Hotmail. As you know that both Google and Microsoft are business rivals, I will not say that one provides better emailing services than the other does. However, one should change himself according to the technologies and trends. Outlook.com provides a nice and clean ‘Metro’ style look that makes you feel the Windows 8 interface. The email service is best suited to those who have been using the Outlook desktop client for years. In fact, such users will feel like home.

Switching to Outlook.com

If you really wish to knock off Gmail and switch to Outlook.com, Microsoft will certainly appreciate your step. Well, MS Outlook (previously Hotmail) has been a super fine email client, but people, even I, refused to switch to this email service provider. In order to make the email migration process easy and secure, Microsoft, this time has come up with a tool that enables migrating from Gmail to Outlook. The tool enables switching to Outlook.com from your Gmail account in a way that the same Inbox is available on the new platform.
Well, the email migration tool has already become popular and people are using it to migrate their emails and contacts from Gmail to Outlook.com. Microsoft, as per the estimation, says that the number of users migrating to Outlook.com will soon cross 400 million. Moreover, those who were planning to switch to Outlook.com now can make a move easily as well as in a secure manner.

Steps to follow

Since the secure and reliable tool from Microsoft is now available, you can switch from your old Gmail account to Outlook.com that has advanced features. Mentioned below is the process that you must follow in order to have smooth and hassle-free Gmail to Outlook migration:
import gmail to outlook
  • At the very first step, you need to create an Outlook.com account, which I believe that you must have created already. Now, click the ‘Tools’ icon in the top right corner, and then choose ‘More mail settings’.
import gmail to outlook
  • On the page that opens, you see so many options. Look for ‘Managing your account’, and then click ‘Import email accounts’ sub-heading under it.
google account connect to outlook
  • After that, choose a Google account to import from. Here, you see Google as a default option, and is shown when Outlook is installed on the same computer. In case the email ID from which you are importing emails is already registered with Microsoft, it detects that ID and lists under “Choose from where you want to import your account:”.
  • Now, a pop-up dialog box appears to explain what is about to happen next, “Send email from your Gmail address using Outlook.com” and “See and chat with your Gmail contacts from the new platform (i.e. Outlook.com) and other Microsoft web services”.
  • The ‘Options’ link enables selecting and importing all of the Gmail messages into a folder and/or sub folders, which by default is opposite to the default settings (i.e. Migrate selected folders and sub folders only). With the selected option, click ‘Start’.
Note: Based on the requirements, you can opt for the ‘Options’ later or tight during email import.
  •  Subsequently, you will be asked to choose an email account to import data from, in case you signed in to Gmail with multiple email accounts. Choose the right account to proceed. However, in case your account is not listed, click ‘Add account’ and type-in your login credentials, and then proceed.
  • You see a message box, saying, what is about to happen next. Moreover, it asks your permission to authorize Microsoft to access your email account.
import google account to outlook
  • Click ‘Accept’ to provide authorization to Microsoft to access your Gmail account information. Once you click ‘Accept’, it will start importing your emails and contacts on Gmail account into Outlook.com account. The time elapsed in the migration process relies on the number of emails and contacts in your Gmail account.
import time for gmail to outlook
Note: The migration process keeps going on in the background without bothering you in any sense. Therefore, you can carry on with other work on the computer.
You will receive an email from Microsoft, which includes steps to set up email auto-forwarding. These steps will be executed every time you receive an email on your Gmail address, and then forward it to your Outlook.com account. However, you can still send emails from your Gmail address.
While the email auto-forwarding steps are being executed, your Outlook account remains safe; there is not at all an issue with the Gmail account as well. In case you want to use your Gmail account at its original address , you can undoubtedly use it. You will see all your emails and contacts intact on Gmail as well.
Note: In case you want to give it a try, I suggest going for it since it does not affect any of both the email accounts. Moreover, you can anytime access your Gmail account right on the mail.google.com

What To Do For Battery Boost on Laptop and Maximize Backup Time Without Charging

Battery backup is more of a concern in mobile devices and even Laptops too. This become more critical when you carry it out at schools or work most of the time. And question arises how can you maximize battery backup and last as long as it used to when it was new.
Here are some tips to boost battery of laptop and increase backup time and last longer without AC charging more often.

1. Setting Screen Brightness

Display takes up most of the battery power so, unless working outside in sunlight, brightness should be extreme low (0%). This can be lowered from Power options in Control Panel or laptops come with function key to do that.
Try to Turn of Laptop LCD Screen while listening songs or when away from Notebook.

2. Kill Useless Windows Processes

Not exactly useless but some programs start with windows and use Computer Processor. These are often used and not always. For example: On my Laptop, I noticed programs like Skype, Dropbox and Google Drive starting up without need. They keep using Processing power and hence battery juice.

3. Disable Wireless Network Connection

While testing some software tools to optimize laptop battery, I noticed that they stress on Wi-Fi connection. So, it is recommended to turn off Wi-Fi when you are not in network; this will save useless efforts by laptop to search for network. Also, it can be disabled even while in network for example watching movie or working on documents offline.

4. Disable CD/DVD Drives and USB Ports

If you are comfortable with touch-pad and do not use external USB mouse with laptop then disable USB ports. I bet you do not use optical CD/DVD Drives more often and for some, it might be never so, why keep it enabled uselessly?
To do that, type “device manager” in start menu and press Enter. In Device Manager, find the optical drive and right click on it to disable. Same is applicable for any other peripheral device attached to your laptop.

5. Setup Power Plans

Use Power Saving Plans in Power options available under Windows Control Panel.
Power Saving Plan
From Advance Power Settings, you can customize the time as per required for various devices and processes. Try to keep it minimum.

6. Battery Calibration

If battery backup has reduced significantly, you should recalibrate laptop battery. As suggested by LifeHacker,
The calibration process basically involves first turning off your screensaver and other power management settings that put the computer to sleep. Then fully charge the laptop before letting it run all the way down until the computer shuts off automatically.
Once the battery has fully drained, you can charge it back up again and restore your screensaver and power management settings.

7. Use Battery Optimizer Windows Software

Battery Optimizer is a diagnostic and optimization tool for laptop’s battery which will analyze the capabilities and optimization options. It takes some time to analyze (say 10 minutes).
A chart is displayed after the diagnostic run which highlights how much battery life you will gain when you run the program’s optimizations. If you have optimized your laptop already for mobile use, you may not gain as much as when you are running the program on a factory default laptop. The more unnecessary features are enabled, the more you will gain from the optimizations.
Laptop Battery Optimization Software Windows 7
If battery heath is shown between 50-80% (Good) then you can recalibrate it and if it is below 25%, then its time to buy new battery.
There are some useful software like Battery Care which can suggest when to calibrate laptop battery, BatteryInfoView which gives all detailed information related to Battery right from Manufacturer name to charging cycles and time duration.

Should Laptop Be Always Plugged in AC Charging?

Laptop batteries may last a little longer if you let them fully discharge occasionally as suggested on Telegraph.
There’s no point in leaving the charger plugged in when you are not using the computer as even in this state it will be consuming a small amount of power. Lithium Ion laptop batteries typically last 3 or 4 years, whether you use them or not, maybe a little longer if you allow them to fully discharge once or twice a month.

Laptop Battery Backup Improvement Tips

  • Hard Drive- More your laptop’s hard disk has to work, the more power it will have to use. Defragging the hard disk will reduce the time it takes to find files. Learn more Hard Disk Maintenance Tips to improve performance. If possible upgrade to SSD, here’s how you can upgrade Laptop HDD to SSD.
  • Operating System- Experience says that Windows 7 is till now offers maximum battery backup. On Ubuntu and other Linux Distros, backup time reduces to half.
  • Cleaning- Try to clean the metal contacts on the battery and your laptop with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol.
That’s all. Keep these in mind whenever you don’t have AC charging option available readily and want to work outside, while traveling or at school.

How to survive without Antivirus on Windows Computer

Image result for without Antivirus
Today, nothing is valued more than safety. Frightened by the news about hackers and viruses, you cannot move the mouse without being entrenched by shields and constant security analysis. Life without an antivirus seems unthinkable (atleast on Windows Computer).
However, it is possible to live without antivirus. Without Antivirus installed, the need for a spending the resources of our computer no longer exists. And then the computer wins in speed and avoid major hassles, such as false alarms.

Why live without antivirus? More performance and stability.

The first has to do with performance. Most antivirus need plenty of memory and computing power to conduct its surveillance. In some cases, consumption of memory that can reach 100 megabytes too.
Analysis by Raymond.cc

This graph taken from Raymond’s Blog shows the startup time of Windows with various antivirus programs. Although some are highly optimized, such as the Microsoft Security Essentials, but most add 30 to 40 seconds to boot time. A time that many consider unacceptable.
As for stability, the presence of a virus that constantly monitors files can interfere with the operation of programs and games. The false alarms, arising from the use of heuristics aggressive, confuse the user and can lead to disastrous events such as the deletion of system files.

Antivirus are useful but do not replace Common Sense

Virus has changed and no longer try to delete files or cause panic, but present themselves as legitimate programs and deceive the user in social networking. Virus writers now prefer to earn money and gain the trust of the user instead of destroying your computer.
In the case of zero-day attacks , the effectiveness of the best antivirus is down more than half. The following chart, published by security expert Brian Krebs in his blog, shows the blocking rate of the ten best antivirus to an unknown threat. The result: Most antivirus takes two days to react .
Test conducted by NSSLabs.com

If you think, then, that an antivirus will protect you 100%, we will have to give bad news: no antivirus protection ensures complete 100%. Alfred Huger, Chairman Immunet , summarizes the situation with a great metaphor:
People should understand that antivirus is more like a safety belt to an armored car , an accident may save your life, but maybe not. There are things you can do first to make sure you do not have an accident, and those are the places where you put all your attention.
Antivirus is therefore a great helper when it comes to keeping the system safe, but not an infallible remedy.

Are you sure to Uninstall Antivirus?

Before removing the antivirus, you better your computer skills with everything necessary to prevent infection easier. We suggest you the following menu, composed of these ingredients:
  • Secure browser: Google Chrome , for example, opens the pages in an isolated area called sandbox , preventing their contents may cross the border to attack Windows and Internet.
  • Sandbox: Sandboxie and BufferZone allow you to run programs on a separate memory space than normal. So if you are unsure about the dangerousness of a file, you can put it in a cage .
  • Virtual machine: The alternative is to use a sandbox suspicious programs running on a virtual machine, ie a PC inside your PC. You can also use it to browse or download files.
  • On Demand Antivirus:  To avoid overloading the system, you can scan files with an antivirus like ClamWin , which only scans when you ask it. Another Option? analyze it on the Internet .
  • Windows firewall: More than enough to reject most attempts of aggression from outside. To have more control over it, install Windows Firewall Notifier.
  • Sysinternals Utilities: Programs like Process Explorer , RootkitRevealer or TCPView will help you find out if something strange is happening in the system. Alternatively, you have those Nirsoft .
  • Antivirus CD: For those who scans monthly, can do without installing anything on your hard drive.
  • Password manager: Indispensable to have a safe place to store sensitive data on your computer that should not easily fall prey to data thieves and attempted phishing.

How to get rid of antivirus

If you’ve decided to give up antivirus, a type of program particularly hard to remove, uninstall it with Ashampoo Uninstaller or Advanced Uninstaller. If the Windows Action Center gave you the error with no antivirus installed, Disable messages about virus protection from Control panel >> Action Center.
Turn of Notification about Virus Protection

Practical Advice

The utilities that we have recommended are not sufficient to avoid security problems. We need a final touch, common sense. Here’s our list of recommendations:
  • Use Windows as a normal user (not Administrator). This prevents a program to have previlege to damage the system. This is what makes Linux and Mac OS X systems are inherently safer.
  • Update Windows regularly so that vulnerabilities get patched in the applications you use most often.
  • Protect your wireless network against intrusions and connect through a multi-router, which act as barrier between the Internet and home network.
  • Download only from trusted sites, such as portals and software applications stores. Here’s a list of free download sites which you can refer.
  • Think twice before installing a program or open a file whose unknown origin. The same goes for e-mail attachments or files that you go through instant messaging.
  • Create a separate partition to store your sensitive documents and data. You may choose from this list of Free File encryption software.
  • Be careful what you ‘re looking on the Internet: Although most browsers already put on the trail of potentially malicious sites, it is worth using extensions like WOT (Web of Trust) or sites like Norton SafeWeb.

Am I recommending not to use Antivirus?

No. What this article aims is to discover the antivirus, though useful, but not remedy to cure everything, and that protection is primarily in your hands. Your use of this information depending on your skill level with computers. The choice is yours.
  1. If you are an advanced user can stop using antivirus and follow the advice above.
  2. If you prefer to use anti-virus, following the recommendations of the Article will increase Windows security
You can go through several antivirus software or refer to list of free antivirus software (best of all time).
Do you prefer to use Windows with or without antivirus? Have your say by commenting below.
