A year after Facebook introduced Internet.org, the company is making it easier for any mobile operator to sign up to offer free Internet access to basic online services and hopes to add more 4.5 billion users.

Facebook's project to spread Internet access to the developing world isn't just getting older -it's also targeting new telecommunications partners in hopes of connecting more people to the Web.

Internet.org was first launched in Africa, but has since expanded and is now available in 17 countries - including countries with very large populations like India - spanning three continents, but only worked with select operators.

Facebook is now attempting to woo more mobile operators to join the programme, announcing a dedicated portal through which operators can sign up.

It's also courting them with statistics - like the fact that "Internet.org brings new users onto mobile networks on average over 50 per cent faster after launching free basic services, and more than half... are paying for data and accessing the Internet within the first 30 days" - suggesting that Internet.org can not only change people's lives, but improve operators' bottom lines.

To help woo those firms, Internet.org is arguing that it represents more than a tool to get the disconnected online: It's also good for the carriers' bottom lines.

In a recent blog Internet.org cites various figures designed to get network operators seeing dollar signs - or perhaps more accurately, pesos, francs and rupees - in a possible partnership with Mark Zuckerberg's initiative.

Internet.org brings new users onto mobile networks on average over 50 per cent faster after launching free basic services, and more than half of the people who come online through Internet.org are paying for data and accessing the Internet within the first 30 days.

These points show that Internet.org is not only a successful tool in helping bring people online, but it is successful in showing people the value of the Internet and helping to accelerate its adoption.
In the past month people using Internet.org accessed health services more than a million times.
For cellular carriers in developing countries, these numbers suggest the potential for rapid growth if they keep investing in their data networks and use?Internet.org as an onramp.
That could be a compelling message: No mobile Internet provider is going to sign on with Internet.org unless it thinks it'll get something out of it.

Motorola announces Moto X Style, Moto X Play

http://media2.intoday.in/btmt/images/stories/moto-x-play_660_072915100356.jpg

Motorola has taken the wraps off the next generation of Moto X after announcing the Moto G 3rd generation in India. The company has announced two new variants - Moto X Style and Moto X Play at a press conference in the US.

The Moto X Style features a 5.7inch QHD display with 2560×1440 pixels resolution. This will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor clocked at1.8GHz and paired with 3GB of RAM and will run on Android Lollipop 5.1.1.

This smartphone will be available in three storage capacities - 16GB/32GB/64GB  and will also support expandable memory. It will be equipped with a 21MP rear camera with dual-CCT flash and 4k video recording. It also has a 5MP wide angle front facing camera with front facing flash. It will have a 3000 mAh battery onboard and will support 4G LTE. Motorola has also added a nano coating which makes it wager repellent.

With no clear mention about the pricing of this smartphone, the company stated that the Moto X Style will be priced $200-$300 less than high-end flagships like the iPhone and Galaxy S6. It is also known as the Pure Edition in the US market.

On the other hand, the Moto X Play is a smaller version of the Moto X Style with a 5.5inch 1080p display. This one will be powered by a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor and will be paired with 2GB of RAM. This one will also run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system and will have a 3,630mAh battery onboard.

Even this one will pack a 21 MP rear camera with dual CCT flash and a 5MP front facing camera. It will be available in 16GB and 32GB internal storage capacity, which can be further expanded using a memory card slot.

Even this one comes with nano-coating. The only hint Motorola gave about the pricing of the Play is that it will be $300-$400 less than high-end flagships like the iPhone and Galaxy S6.
The company has not yet shared the details about the India launch of these two phones yet but will share news about the same sometime later this year.

Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system debuts today: All you need to know

http://www.wcvb.com/image/view/-/34396582/highRes/1/-/maxh/480/maxw/640/-/ufdf5z/-/Microsoft-Window-10-jpg.jpg

Microsoft's new Windows 10 operating system debuts today. The company is counting on tens or even hundreds of millions of people to download its latest release in the coming months.

Microsoft’s new Windows 10 operating system debuts Wednesday, as the longtime leader in PC software hopes that giving the upgrade away for free will help it carve out a new role in a world where people increasingly rely on smartphones, tablets and information stored online.

The company is counting on tens or even hundreds of millions of people to download its latest release in the coming months. Many people will also get Windows 10 as part of new PCs. The launch will be accompanied by a global marketing campaign for an event the company hopes will be pivotal — both for its own future and for a vast audience of computer users around the world.

Windows 10 is coming to PCs and tablets first, but it’s also designed to run phones, game consoles and even holographic headsets. It has new features, a streamlined Web browser called Edge and a desktop version of Cortana, the online assistant that is Microsoft’s answer to Google Now and Apple’s Siri.

Still, the company insists Windows 10 will seem familiar to users of Windows 7, the six-year-old operating system still running on most PCs. Microsoft and PC makers want to erase the memory of the last big update, 2012’s Windows 8, which alienated many with its jarring, unwieldy design.
Microsoft skipped the name Windows 9, as if to distance itself further from the last release. While many analysts believe Windows 8 made sagging PC sales even worse, it’s unclear if Windows 10 will spur the industry back to growth.

Here’s a look at the launch and why it matters:
What happens this week?
Microsoft plans promotional events in several cities Wednesday, tied to a global ad campaign and a series of charitable donations. About 5 million people who enrolled in an earlier test program will be able to download Windows 10 right away.
The company is also offering Windows 10 as a free download, any time over the next year, to anyone who has the Home or Pro versions of Windows 7 or 8 (but not the Enterprise versions used by big organizations). Some people might not get it the first day; Microsoft says it will deliver downloads in waves, to ensure things go smoothly, but it hasn’t said how long that will take. Details on how to upgrade are here: http://bit.ly/1eNCySl .

Retailers such as Best Buy, Staples and Wal-Mart will have some desktops and laptops with Windows 10 already installed. More models are coming.

Why is Microsoft giving Windows 10 for free?
The company wants to get the new software on as many devices as possible. Microsoft needs a large pool of users to convince independent programmers that it’s worth their time to build useful or entertaining apps for Windows 10 devices. Executives also believe that if people are exposed to the latest and best Windows, they’re more likely to try other Microsoft products on PCs and mobile devices.

CEO Satya Nadella says he wants to have 1 billion devices running Windows 10 in three years. Microsoft estimates there are 1.5 billion people who currently use some kind of Windows. Rather than charging them to upgrade, as Microsoft used to do, it’s embracing the free download model pioneered by Apple and Google.

How will Microsoft make money?

Microsoft will still collect licensing fees from PC makers that install Windows 10 on new machines. In recent years, most consumers have waited until they bought a new computer to get the latest Windows. Microsoft also makes money from selling Windows and other software to large businesses and organizations.

In addition, Microsoft is counting on Windows 10 to spur more use of other services. Microsoft makes money from selling advertising for its Bing search engine, and Windows 10 comes with many apps that steer people to Bing. The company also collects fees from people who use premium versions of its Office software, OneDrive cloud storage and Skype.

Why does this matter to consumers?

Microsoft says Windows 10 is designed for the way people use computers today — with a faster Web browser and features that make it easier to start tasks on a PC and then switch to a hand-held device. (Apple and Google tout similar features in their software.)
Windows 10 also lets users log in with their face, iris or thumbprint, instead of remembering passwords, though this works only with computers equipped with the right hardware.
Most PC users are still working with Windows 7, thanks to Windows 8’s unpopularity. But Microsoft plans to phase out maintenance and security support for Windows 7 over the next five years, and for Windows 8 by 2023, as it did with the older Windows XP. Still, there’s no need to panic about upgrading right away.

Why is it important to the tech industry?

The growth in mobile devices has caused PC sales to decline for more than three years, hurting manufacturers like Hewlett-Packard and companies like Microsoft and Intel, whose products are used with PCs.

Windows 10 won’t make people give up their hand-held gadgets, but it’s part of Nadella’s strategy to reposition Microsoft for a world where people use multiple devices. PC makers are hoping he succeeds.

Jeff Barney, who runs Toshiba’s consumer PC business, said the new software is easier to use than Windows 8 and will complement hardware advances in Toshiba’s newest machines. Although Barney isn’t expecting a big rush to stores Wednesday, “over time, I think we’re going to see a positive trend in sales.”

Freelance Job Sites for Everyone

http://millo.co/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/freelance-design-worth-it.jpg

From past seven years, I have seen many freelance job sites that have allowed me to work online and earn my living. At the start, I opened an account on one site only, and I relied completely on that as it was enough to pay all my bills. After a while when I expanded my online business, I was comfortably getting much higher paying jobs, and they not only paid me high but also I had to spend less time than before. All this was a big bonus and win for me.
I have not used all of the freelancing job sites, but I’ve undoubtedly touched base with the major ones. Many of those gave me enough money in my saving account, but few of them were bad enough to think about a day job. Today, I have made a list of all those good sites that will save you some headache of finding them. Here are some of the best freelance job sites that you will find online for work as a freelancer. Best of luck.

Upwork

Every freelancer will be happy with Upwork (previously oDesk), due the vast number of clients ( almost 2 million) it has. With both long-term and short-term projects, entry-level, hourly, expert level and per-project based work can be found here. So, If you are beginner or intermediate or an expert in your field Upwork has something for all.

Elance

You will find thousand of active projects that include writing, web development, programming, graphic design, research and administrative.
All the payments are handled by Elance and they charge about 8.75% of what you ask of your clients. When your job is done, clients pay you and they deduct their fee and transfer the rest to you. They have several plans, and they offer additional benefits and features on them. Basic plan of Elance is totally free.

Freelancer

Freelancer is another popular website that has million of projects in it. This site allows you to compete with other registered freelancers, this means you can prove your skills with the help of contents. For a client, these type of contests will assist them in select freelancers with certain abilities.

Craigslist

Craigslist is another super site that help you fetch jobs in the freelancing sector. Most of the people know Craiglist as a trading and selling platform, but it also has categories where freelancers are expected to gain a lot. Many of my clients have come from Craigslist and they pay well.

Guru

You can showcase your past works and experiences that in turn will get offers from a job-matching system Guru has developed. Its management can be easily managed with Guru Work Room.

Behance.net

Basically, Behance is an online marketplace for showcasing your work and prior job assignments, but it also has search for part-time job and other freelancing opportunities.

Freelance Writing Gigs

This website is another great resource for bloggers, editors, publishers, writers. Writing jobs here are easy to find, and it provides a good interface for the ease of clients.

6 Cool New Features in OnePlus 2 You Should Know About

http://bestmobs.com/html/uploads/oneplus-2-qhd-display-vs-apple-iphone-6-display-e1428139576808.jpg
The OnePlus 2 is real. It's loaded with goodies and the pricing is pretty sweet. Here are all the cool new features in the OnePlus 2. (And pssst... some not so cool ones as well).

After a shaky, neck pain inducing, yet very well choreographed casual VR launch, the cat’s finally out of the bag. OnePlus 2 is here. It will cost $330/$390 for the 16/64 GB versions. Sales go live on August 11 in USA, Canada, EU, and India. The 16 GB version is coming in a couple of months. If you’re interested in finding out all the specs and the price in your region, check out our respective articles on the topic.

It seems like everyone has an opinion about the all-metal redesigned body. It doesn’t look that bad, really. Some think it’s gorgeous. Others think it’s not that great. Right now though, we’re going to talk about the really cool stuff in OnePlus 2 (and some not-so-cool stuff).

1. Fingerprint Sensor

It’s only since Galaxy S6 that I started to believe in fingerprint sensors on Android phones. And OnePlus claims their sensor is better/faster than the iPhone. What’s important is that it works and it works well. In his impressions video, MKBHD said the success rate was way above 90%, which is around the iPhone territory. You can add up to 5 fingerprints. And OnePlus 2 has this cool mode where you can just place your finger on the home button when the screen is off and the phone will just skip the lockscreen and take you directly to the homescreen. It’s really fast, as you can see in the GIF below (courtesy of Droid-Life).

oneplus2-fingerprint

2. USB Type-C

We’ve written an entire explainer guide on USB Type-C. It does a lot of stuff that would negate the need for other ports like HDMI but in this instance, the coolest thing about it is that it’s reversible. Yup, no need to do that turn it up-down-up-again USB dance we’re all too familiar with.

USB C OnePlus 2

3. Laser Autofocus, OIS and A New Camera App

Here are the camera specs. 13 MP, f/2.0 aperture, Dual LED flash and you can still shoot in 4K. But it’s not the specs that are interesting, it’s the technologies and the software.

LG G3 was the first popular phone that introduced us to laser autofocus. If you weren’t briefed about it, here’s how it works. Before taking the shot, the phone emits a laser light burst that hits the subject and bounces back to the sensor. The software then calculates the time it took for the light to get there and back. Now that the camera knows exactly how far the subject is, it can focus really quickly and more importantly, do it right. The 2’s sensor does this all under 0.2 seconds.

The camera also supports Optical Image Stabilization. That should help smooth out all those shaky shots.
OnePlus has created a custom camera app that lets then do some cool stuff. The app will be able to create 50 MP shots, will have a slo-mo mode that goes upto 120 FPS and of course, a time-lapse mode.
From early hands-on and that MKBHD review, the general consensus seems to be that the camera is better than the One (which is great) but it’s still no current flagship killer. “It’s decent” is the name of the game. And for a $330 phone, maybe that’s not so bad.

4. There’s a Physical Mute Switch

The last time people were this excited about a physical mute switch was in 2007, when the first iPhone came out. And if you’ve ever used one, you know how useful the physical mute toggle switch is. So it’s surprising that it took 7 years to see it on a mainstream Android phone. OnePlus 2’s Alert Slider has three states, instead of two. All notifications, Priority notifications and Mute.

I’m not sure how well this is going to work, because when it comes to toggles, 3 is usually a crowd. Flicking a switch without thinking about it is easy. Tweaking a slider though, needs thought. Hopefully, we’ll get used to it.

5. Dat Kevlar Back Tho

Kevlar Back

OnePlus 2 ships with an improved version of the Sandstone back. But I think the StyleSwap replaceable backs is where the action’s at. You can choose between back covers made from real wood (Bamboo, Black Apricot and Rosewood). The best one though might just be Kevlar. At least in these pictures, it looks badass. Covers are $27 each.

Covers

6. OxygenOS Might Not Disappoint?

I have to say, Cyanogen OS did make a significant contribution to OnePlus One’s initial success. But OxygenOS is quickly catching up and even adding unique features of its own. Like CM and Android M, there’s a pro-level App Permissions feature. There’s also custom accent colors for the entire UI and a dark mode. Plus, there’s normal custom ROM like features – edit the toggles in Notification Drawer, change the behavior of physical buttons and more.

OxygenOS

Feature wise, OxygenOS seems to be up there. But what about actual performance, or unforeseeable bugs? Well, only time will tell.

Now, the Not So Exciting Stuff

Has anyone told you yet, there’s no such thing as a perfect phone? And that rumors and perceptions and tweets from “experts” and “market-analysts” aren’t the final word on matters of what makes it to the production model?

OnePlus calls the 2 the “2016 Flagship Killer” (well, errr…) And in that future, there are no 2K displays, there are no NFC chips, IR blasters and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 doesn’t have any problems whatsoever. Future is a great place to be in.

Yes, we were all expecting a QHD display. But it’s only a 1080p panel here. But it looks like it’s much brighter and sharper than the old one (600 nits brightness level). Although text and images won’t be as crisp as on a Galaxy S6, it won’t be washed out either. It does help the battery life a great deal though. Also, we hear that there’s no Quick Charge feature either. Why you ask? We honestly don’t know. Maybe Qualcomm’s licensing fee is too high? And did we mention the IR blaster?

The real eyebrow raisers are the Snapdragon 810 processor and the lack of an NFC chip. We’ve read consistent reports of 810 getting a bit too warm under heavy duty stuff (and when it gets warm, it throttles). But hopefully, the 1080p screen will keep that in check. Still, I can’t think of one good reason to not include an NFC sensor. Do nerds not like to buy stuff using contactless payments? I’m sure they do. If you have a theory, leave it in the comment below.

What do you think of the OnePlus 2? Was the #HYPE worth it? What’s your number in the invite queue? Feel free to comment below.

Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen Launched with 5-inch HD, 2GB RAM, 13MP Camera and Snapdragon 410

http://www.pc-tablet.co.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/motorola-moto-g-3588-003.jpg

The hoopla around the upcoming Motorola devices seems to have finally settled after the company launched its iterative upgrade in G series, the Moto G 3rd gen at Rs 11,999 (~$185) for the 1GB RAM/8GB Storage and Rs 12,999 (~$203) for the 2GB RAM/16GB storage. Last couple of weeks have been full of Motorola leaks and rumors, and couple of days before we also saw a Moto G 2015 promotional video that left very little for imagination.

http://www.smartphoneandprice.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/motorola-moto-x-3rd-generation-price-in.jpg

Disrupting the market with affordable produce has been Motorola’s forte, but all that seemed to have gone a bit offtrack (at least in India) with the launch of ultra affordable phones like Xiaomi Redmi 2 and Lenovo K3 Note which boasted of better specifications than the Moto E and the Moto G.

Moto G 2015 is propelled by the quad-core Snapdragon 410 SoC clocked at 1.4GHz which is a slight improvement over the Snapdragon 400 we saw on Moto G 2nd gen last year, and paired with 1GB/ 2GB RAM. The display comes in the form of a 5-inch HD screen.

Moto G 3rd gen has also evolved relatively on the camera front, which has been an achilles heel for the company in the past, and the latest Moto G is equipped with a 13-Megapixel primary sensor and a 5-Megapixel secondary sensor. The 13-Megapixel sensor is directly picketed from the Nexus 6 and the additional features like color balancing flash mark the changes on the camera front in the Moto G 2015.
The phone will run on Android Lollipop 5.1.1 and being a Moto device it wont be entertaining the hoard of preloaded third party apps like in other phones. Along with the Vanilla Android experience Motorola have also bundled some innovative features like Moto Display (Glance notification), Quick Capture (Seen on earlier Moto X) and the new chop twice feature which will switch on the LED flash with the chopping moment.

The design of the new Moto G 2015 is not drastically different but it does leave us impressed with the new added bits like the dual tone finish at the back and the freshly textures back panel. The Moto G 2015 comes with IPX7 certification which makes it water resistant when immersed up to three feet of deep water for a maximum of 30 minutes.

Moto G 2015 comes with a bumped up 2740mAh battery pack and features the usual set of connectivity features including 4G LTE.

Its not surprising that Motorola has introduced swappable rear panels for the Moto G 2015 but that being said the it is not clear if the company will be launching the Moto Maker feature for the Indian market. Moto G 2015 will be sold in Flipkart and the initial buyers stand a chance to win 100% cashback and 100 Moto G for Rs 1. Apart from these the other goodies include shopping vouchers, Wync subscription and a 4G enabled SIM from Airtel. Additionally Motorola will be sprucing up the offers with a exchange offer where in they will buy back any recent Moto devices and offer a discount.

The thing that boggles us down is the fact that Motorola is sticking up with a rather mediocre chipset in the form of Snapdragon 410 inspite of the specification rat race in the market. In all likelihood Motorola might have played safe by not opting for the Snapdragon 615 SoC which reportedly had heating issues in Xiaomi Mi 4i.  We fail to understand the reason logic behind the 1GB RAM/8GB storage variant which is priced just Rs 1000 less than the 2GB RAM/16GB storage version.
